THIS

is the lingual frenulum.

It is a tissue that is made of the mucus membrane lining your mouth. It begins development at about 4 weeks of age and houses a series of salivary gland ducts at it’s base. It can, in some people, forcibly eject saliva in response to excessive tension, causing an action commonly known as “gleeking”. The frenulum limits the movement of the tongue and can cause the condition known as “tongue-tied” or ankyloglossia.

It is about 2 cm of uselessness.

It is also what cost me my “A” on my Anatomy and Physiology final.
